Hydraulic magnets are pieces of equipment used for lifting and handling ferrous materials, which can be mounted on heavy machinery generally employed on construction sites such as excavators or loaders.

How hydraulic magnets work

Hydraulic magnets have the advantage of operating without any electrical connection, as they connect directly to the hydraulic system of the machine: a feature that makes the lifting system extremely practical and versatile. The hydraulic magnet used to collect ferrous materials is connected to the machine by mean of pipes to the inlet and outlet of the generator: it magnetises when the oil is flowing and it demagnetises when the flow stops.

The different types of hydraulic electromagnets

Hydraulic magnets differ according to their features, which make them specific for different fields of application.

• Hydraulic electromagnets with teeth // They are mainly used in demolition sites. The teeth are designed to rake debris, facilitating the extraction of ferrous materials. These magnets are typically used with excavators and heavy machinery due to their heavy weight.
• Hydraulic electromagnet with chain // Hydraulic electromagnets with chain are ideal for cleaning and handling scrap and are mainly used in recycling and scrap yards. They are generally attached to material handlers, but can also be used with excavators and they offer the best capacity/weight ratio.
• Hydraulic magnet with quick coupling plate // Hydraulic magnets with a quick coupling plate can be connected to the machine without manual intervention by the operator and they have a more precise positioning on the material, making them extremely efficient. The plate can be customised according to the intended application and the machinery used.

Hydraulic lifting magnets are frequently used in demolition sites, for collecting and handling scrap at recycling sites and scrap yards. Because of their size, it is recommended to attach them to massive machinery in order to ensure optimal operation in total safety. For this reason, they are frequently attached to excavators.
